Gallagher Premiership Rugby grounds


The Gallagher Premiership has some incredible rugby grounds that host all of the current teams. Let’s take a look at the Premiership Rugby stadiums. 

Where does Bath Rugby play? 

Bath Rugby play at the Recreation Ground, commonly known as the Rec. The rugby team has played at the ground since it was opened in 1894. The ground has also in the past been used for Croquet, Tennis and Drama. The Rec is one of the older grounds in Premiership Rugby, with the majority of the ground having no cover from the weather. 

Where does Bristol Rugby play? 

Bristol Bears currently play at Ashton Gate which is located to the southwest of the city of Bristol. The rugby team have had a few different homes in the team’s history but saw major investment start to come in around the 2010s. 

This led to Bristol Bears moving to Ashton Gate in 2014, with the stadium being the home of Bristol City football club since 1904. The stadium is the largest in the Premiership, although it is rarely at full capacity during rugby games. Bristol had played a few games at Ashton Gate prior to moving there in 2014. 

Where do Exeter Chiefs play? 

Exeter Chiefs play at Sandy Park Stadium, which has been the team’s home since 2006. Exeter were previously playing at the County Ground, before moving to Sandy Park permanently in 2006. The stadium is located five miles east of the centre of Exeter, right next to the M5. 

Sandy Park has not only hosted Exeter games but was also used in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. They hosted three group games, with Namibia losing twice at the County Ground in 2015. 

Where does Gloucester Rugby play? 

Gloucester Rugby club play at Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester. They have been playing their games at Kingsholm since 1891, making it one of the oldest Premiership stadiums in the country. 

Gloucester Rugby purchased the ground in 1891 and a pavilion was constructed for the next season. In 1934 the original pavilion was demolished and a historic stand was put in place. The Shed is one of the most famous stadiums in the Premiership, with the Gloucester fans piling themselves into the standing stadium. 

Kingsholm has hosted some huge international games as well, hosting teams like Scotland, Japan and Ireland and even hosting the All Blacks back in 1991. 

Where does Harlequins rugby play? 

Harlequins play at the Twickenham Stoop, located in southwest London. This has been the home of Harlequins since 1963. The ground is famous for being located just across the road from Twickenham, the national rugby stadium for England. 

It has been the home of Harlequins since they moved from Twickenham in 1963 and has a capacity of 14,800. The Twickenham Stoop has undergone huge redevelopment in its history. 

Where do Leicester Tigers play? 

Leicester Tigers play their home games at the Mattioli Woods Welford Road, more commonly known as Welford Road. Welford Road is located on the southern edge of Leicester city centre. This has been the home of the rugby club since 1892, having undergone four different expansions. 

The ground is the largest purpose-built club rugby stadium in England, with a capacity of 25,849. The first part of the ground’s name is due to a sponsorship with Mattioli Woods, a wealth management company. 

Where do London Irish play? 

London Irish currently play their rugby at the Gtech Community Stadium, also known as the Brentford Community Stadium. This is one of the newest stadiums in the UK, opening in 2020 and being designed for both rugby and football. 

As well as being the home of London Irish, the stadium is also the home of Brentford FC. It is undoubtedly one of the best rugby stadiums in the country, with London Irish creating a great atmosphere for home games. 

Where do Newcastle Falcons play? 

Newcastle Falcons play their home games at Kingston Park. Kingston Park is a multi-purpose stadium, having been built to be used for different sports. It is also the home of Newcastle Thunder, Newcastle Rugby League team. 

Kingston Park has been the home of Newcastle Falcons since it opened in 1990. It was the second ground in the Premiership to start using an artificial playing surface. The ground hosted three group-stage games of the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.

Where does Northampton Saints play? 

Northampton Saints currently play their home games at Franklin’s Gardens. Franklin’s Gardens was built in 1880 and became the host of Northampton Saints in 1888. This makes it one of the oldest Premiership Rugby stadiums, with Northampton having a very good rugby following. 

Over the last 20 years, the ground has undergone modernisation, with work being done on all four of the stands. The stadium is currently known as Cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens, due to a sponsorship deal with car purchasing company Cinch. 

Where does Sale Sharks play? 

Sale Sharks currently play at the AJ Bell Stadium. This stadium was built in 2012 and is another of the Premiership rugby stadiums with multiple uses. Sale Sharks shared the stadium with Rugby League team Salford Red Devils in 2012. 

The stadium is located on the western outskirts of Manchester. It is called the AJ Bell stadium due to a naming deal with British company AJ Bell. The stadium has also hosted Manchester Titans American Football team, as well as formerly the host of Manchester United’s under-21 team. 

Where does Saracens play? 

Saracens currently play their home games at the StoneX Stadium. The StoneX Stadium is part of Barnet Copthall sports venue which is on the border of London. Saracens have had a few different homes over the years, but moved to the StoneX Stadium in 2013, having previously shared a stadium with Watford FC. 

The Stone X has a capacity of 10,500 and is another stadium in the Premiership which uses an artificial pitch. The stadium had a newly completed west stand in November 2022. It used to be called Allianz Park due to sponsorship reasons but is now known as the StoneX Stadium.
